Time History Analyses of a Masonry Structure for a Sustainable Technical Assessment According to Romanian Design Codes

Computer simulations are challenging in terms of modeling the appropriate behavior brick masonry structures. These numerical becoming increasingly difficult due to several design code requirements considered for technical assessment structures rehabilitation. In Romania, many have withstood powerful earthquakes during their lifetime and require rehabilitation works. This paper aims further assess various simulation challenges regarding boundary conditions spandrels structural behavior. presents a comparative study two different spandrel-piers scenarios: one considers link between them as unaffected, other attempts simulate occurrence damage by replacing spandrel’s presence initial structure. The proposed model follows “strong pier–weak spandrel model” is aimed at practicing engineers. Models computed with ordinary software such Robot Structural Analysis 2D shells finite elements walls and, more complex manner, Ansys 3D solid elements. Time history analyses carried out three distinct accelerograms recorded Romania.
